DIY Advent Calendar

This year I wanted to make an advent calendar to put a tiny gift in each day as we count down to Christmas. For Eric and I, we will each take half and put a little something in for the other, but you can really do it any way you want. I went with a black and white theme for ours. They were super easy to make once I taught myself where I needed to cut and fold, but I made a super easy guide for you to be able to create your own. I did a few each day and before I knew it, I had tons of these adorable mini boxes.

If you’re looking for the exact same calendar I made a free printable for you! Just print out on card stock using and select “actual size” no need to shrink it. Download the free printable here. Want a different theme? Download the blank template I made and purchase some pretty paper and use that for printing.

You’ll need:

  • Card stock paper & a printer
  • Double sided tape or glue
  • Exacto knife (preferable) or scissors
  • Cutting mat or surface

Start by printing the template at “actual size” using card stock (I used 110 lb.) Next, cut out along the outside of the guides, then cut and score according to the picture below. If you don’t know what scoring is- it means using the back of the exact blade (the not as sharp edge) and running it along the guide mark- this makes it easier to fold. If you don’t have an exact knife, just do your best to fold it on the lines. Fold and tape the inside support flaps to create the box shape. Finish it off by brining up the pattered sides and you have your box!
