A few weeks ago I had to fortune to reconnect (thanks Facebook) to an old friend, Kiley Hagerty. Kiley isn’t your average 20-something though, she’s an expert in the kitchen. Her cookbook, On Your Own, is for, as she says “the smart-as-a-whip, beautiful, hilarious and fiercely independent young woman who just seems lost in the kitchen”. What I love though is that this book doesn’t just give you yummy recipes, it tells you how to shop for groceries, what you need in your kitchen and helps you with having a more healthy lifestyle. Basically, its a slam dunk for any young woman who is in need of some help in the kitchen or even someone wanting some fresh new recipes to try.
Kiley has experience outside of her own kitchen too, she’s worked for Eating Well Magazine and currently works for Chris Cosentino (pst he won Top Chef Masters). The girl knows what she’s doing. She’s also funny, because really, what girl wants to read a dry cook book?
My favorite part about her cookbook are all the tips and tricks she gives. She even has tips on cooking without a recipe and explains some of the terminology in cooking ( a huge help because there’s been a few times where my hands are covered in flour or oil but I need to google what the heck something like “julienne” means, by the way, its a fancy word for cutting something into long strips.)
Here come’s the bad news, her fabulous cook book is currently in production so we all have to wait a little while before we can purchase it (I am just as disappointed as you.) BUT, here’s the great news: she leaks recipes on her Facebook Page and on her Website so you can start to get a taste of her wonderful recipes! She also has an instagram which makes your mouth water so if you’re hungry and don’t have access to a kitchen I recommend not looking at it.
I was fortunate enough to get a sneak peak of what to expect in her cookbook (hence why I am so excited) and spied so many recipes I want to try, the first being “Sunday Morning Waffles” because breakfast is my favorite meal of the day. I’m also excited because this cookbook is surely going to end up being a life saver in my sorority house!
Check out Kiley’s Facebook and website and get excited for this wonderful cookbook to be released!
