Engagement parties come in all shapes and sizes, for some this is a chance to establish the formal wedding vibe early and others it’s just a chance to toast your engagement with friends and family, without the fuss. Also, you don’t have to have an engagement party at all! We decided to skip the traditional engagement party and just got drinks with friends at a local bar right after we got engaged. This was partially because we don’t live in the same states as our families and partially because we didn’t want to stress someone else out with planning of a formal party. That being said, we very well may do smaller celebrations with our families when we’re home. As far as engagement parties or celebratory drinks go, it’s totally up to you. Do what feels right for you two as a couple- the wedding is about you, don’t let others tell you differently.
Being a bride is also such a fun excuse to dress up or maybe splurge a little extra on a top or dress you can wear to wedding events like the engagement party, bridal shower, rehearsal dinner, honeymoon and anything else you can think of. For formal affairs stick to a a dress or jumpsuit paired with a poppy pair of heels. Consider a fun top paired with a skirt or high waisted dress pants to keep it upscale without going too formal.
