I discovered Jules Reid about two years ago, and immediately fell in love with the bold colors and patterns. It’s the kind of clothing that you put on and are immediately effortlessly chic. I’m so excited to be bringing you a giveaway with Jules Reid, as well as an interview spotlight!
SM: What made you decide to give up your job on Wall Street, and chase your dream of becoming an interior designer turned fashion designer?
JR: I loved my career so much as a stockbroker, but when I was pregnant with my 2nd son… I realized that working full time was going to be a struggle. Giving up my clients and becoming a stay at home mom was a scary prospect. I look back on that decision with joy as it led me into my creative side. I was able to spend time learning the interior design business and ultimately start my dream…having my own clothing line.
SM: What has been the hardest part of staring your line?
JR: The hardest part is wearing all hats as a company owner and also a designer. The brand and the company are constantly on my mind, and this can be both a positive and a negative. Breaking into the fashion world and spreading the brand is a big feat….. but everyday it seems that the JR brand gets closer to my ultimate dream.
SM: Do you have any advice for other young women who want to follow their entrepreneurial spirit?
JR: I would tell young women to have as many internships and jobs while they are in college as they can. Spending time with people who are actually doing the things that they hope to do will give them the actual answers about if this is a career that they want to pursue. The more experiences you can get while you are still able to take risks…. TAKE THEM.
SM: How do you like to relax?
JR: I relax on the beach, reading or playing with my sons. I also try to do yoga once a day. Yoga has been the best newer part of my life in the past 2 years. The feeling that I have after a yoga class gives me the strength to concur the day!
SM: Do you have one of everything you’ve ever designed? Why or why not?
JR: I do not have one of everything, but….. ALMOST! There are a few styles that do not flatter my figure like the others, and so I have let others enjoy them. I wish, however, looking back that I DID have one of every piece since the first collection in 2010.
SM: Where do you draw your inspiration from?
JR: My inspirations come from the past, especially vintage looks. I also gain enormous inspiration when I travel. Ideas and colors seems to flood into my brain much easier when I am away from my day to day schedule.
