Gifts for the gals that are under $250 (plus some great tips for general guidelines in gift giving)
Buying for Friends & Family:
1. Think about what stage they are in for their life- Did they just move? Buy them something that will go with their new home decor (but include a gift receipt). Did they just have a baby? Get her a gift card to a spa to remind her that she still needs to have time for herself.
2. You don’t have to spend a lot, to send a lot. If you’re on a tight budget then sometimes including a really beautiful note to them is the best present they could ever receive. Put real thought into it, because that’s something they will remember forever.
3. This is the same for both. Sometimes the best finds are from somewhere local. Have a great candle shop? A local jewelry store (p.s. you can sometimes find the best bang for your buck at a local jeweler)? Unique handmade home decor?
4. Its 100% okay to ask them what they want, especially family. Just ask them (or their parents if they’re younger) to send over their Christmas list and pick out something you want to give them.
Buying for your significant other:
1. Leave the clothes up to their family (trust me, their Grandparents love to buy them sweaters, scarves, etc.) The exception to this is if they have literally said “I love this ______, how about you get me that for Christmas.”
2. Put in the effort, this is similar to number 2 from the friends and family. Make sure it is something that lets them know, that you know them well. Its not all about the $$ spent, but the thought behind the gift.
3. This is the same for both. Sometimes the best finds are from somewhere local. Have a great candle shop? A local jewelry store (p.s. you can sometimes find the best bang for your buck at a local jeweler)? Unique handmade home decor?
4. They’ve probably dropped hints. If you’re buying for a girl, they’ve definitely dropped hints (also p.s. girls can never have too much jewelry, literally never). If you’re buying for a guy, chances are they’ve dropped hints or that they assume you know them so well you will get them exactly what they want or know you have great taste.
5. Don’t be afraid to ask their friends for help! I can’t tell you how many times my friend’s boyfriends have texted me asking what they should get her for Christmas, or their Birthday, or Valentines day etc. These are also the times my friends text me telling me what a great gift they got and how much they love it (not the times they text me asking “what was he thinking?!”)
No matter what, just remember to try and make it something you’ve thought about, not a last minute afterthought. Also, try not to be like me and my mom in the fact that we can never keep a gift a surprise to each other (oops!)
