It has been almost a month since returning from Africa and truly, my heart and mind are still there. From the moment we stepped off the plane in the bush, I knew that my life would be forever changed by the experiences to come. We took our safari in Manyeleti, South Africa and could not have been happier with our location.
Easily my most favorite memory was when about 16 elephants descended on a small watering hole we were parked next to. Baby elephants, adolescents and adults all began bathing, rolling around and pushing each other in the water. When they began to slow we looked behind us and realized that we were actually surrounded by a parade of 40 plus elephants. Words cannot describe the feeling of awe that had myself, Eric, our guide and our tracker all left without words in that moment.
We were fortunate enough to see each of the big five animals (elephants, lions, water buffalo, rhino and leopard) multiple times as well as zebra, giraffe, hippos and even saw 2 of the highly venomous and rare black mamba. While on safari, we were constantly reminded of just how small we were, these powerful animals were just a few feet away from us and together we were still just a tiny part of this world. Those many moments we spent next to the animals, learning about them, admiring them and having a breath taken away by them were ones to cherish and we will be looking to get back there as soon as we can.
In just a few more weeks I will be releasing a small series of limited edition fine art prints from Africa. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to a foundation to help protect these magnificent animals and keep them safe for generations to come.
