Wedding Wednesday: Men’s Edit

As promised, I was not going to leave the men out when it came to wedding guest attire. While men have fewer options in terms of what to wear (tuxedo, suit or sport coat) they can still show off their personalities through the accessories and the colors they decide upon. For instance this brighter blue suit is stunning and can be worn for a formal or cocktail attire wedding. For a black tie wedding, go with a classic black tuxedo and use a pair of cuff links for added flair.

There are many types of weddings but some great rules of thumb to follow when dressing for these events are as follows:

Black tie– Tuxedo, plain and simple, this is what’s expected.

Formal– Usually this means a formal suit for the men, but not a tux, however if it’s far enough in advance, you can always ask the couple what they’re idea of formal is.

Cocktail– Depending on the location, a suit or a nice sport coat and slacks might be appropriate here.

Casual– A fitted button down shirt and nice slacks is a great way to go for a more casual wedding.

Adding great accessories can really make the outfit here. For shoes, I love these, they’re the one’s Eric has, he finds them extremely comfortable, and I find them very attractive. Add a great pocket square to peak out of the suit and tie into the rest of your look.

When purchasing a tux, suit or sport coat off the rack, take your own measurements and find the one that fits all or most of your body. From here, you will likely want to take it to a tailor to have them fit it to you, this will give you the look of a custom piece without the expense. If you don’t have a tailor, Yelp is a great way to find a reliable one. If you’re in NYC, I would recommend Alternations on 5th Avenue. I actually took a pair of pants and a jumpsuit there not realizing it was mens only and they did an amazing job- Juan is a master tailor, very nice, and has a great eye for details. He made sure the fit was perfect for my pieces as well as the others in the shop. Side note: They also have a sister shop for the ladies.

When purchasing online (my preferred method), be sure to check the “fit description” on each piece, if you like things more fitted look for slim cuts to achieve what you’re going for, an ill fitting suit is never a good look. Bonus tip, a well fitted suit is about the equivalent to beautiful lingerie, so it’s wise to take your time when finding the right one.
